Akenti Rites of Passage
Based on a model from Atlanta, the Akenti Rites of Passage works with young boys of color in sessions that develop leadership, community, and manhood. The Akenti Program is a strategic effort by M.O.M.I.E's to develop more specialized programming for our youth who are growing into the middle school years.
Emerging Gender-Specific Programming in M.O.M.I.E's Learning Cis-Tem
One of M.O.M.I.E’s newest initiatives, the Akenti Program focuses on various aspects of development from an African-centered viewpoint. It is an eleven-week Program in which the boys, ages 10-14, undergo mentorship, workshops, and team building exercises around themes including, but not limited to an alternative view point of manhood, responsibility, respect, humility, self development, and self determination. Most recently we completed the 2009 Akenti Series.
We are seeking volunteers to help support and implement the Akenti Rites of Passage Program. To learn more about how you can be involved, contact Ayize Sabater at info@momiestlc.com or call (202) 545 - 1919.
